Gifts from Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)
Juilliard accepts gifts from Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) subject to the legal restrictions applicable to such gifts. Federal tax laws limit the use of funds from a DAF to make gifts that provide more than an incidental personal benefit to the donor-advisor. Juilliard will not provide individuals with tickets or similar personal benefits in return for gifts from DAFs if such gifts would not be fully deductible by an individual donor. Donors giving from a DAF may waive their membership benefits to ensure no benefits of fair market value are received; the donor-advisor can receive benefits that have insubstantial or no fair market value.
Donors are encouraged to use their individual retirement accounts, 401(k) plans or similar retirement assets to fund a gift to Juilliard. IRAs can be used to make direct cash contributions to Juilliard without the donor incurring taxable income, while satisfying the donor’s required minimum distribution. Contact your financial advisor with questions about how these policies may affect your giving through a DAF or IRA.

Donating musical instruments, books, scores, and other materials
The Juilliard School welcomes the donation of certain types of grand pianos, musical instruments, books, scores, manuscripts, and other materials as in-kind gifts.
Juilliard's many practice rooms, concert halls, and faculty studios are equipped with grand pianos, all of which receive constant use and expert care. The School also maintains an important collection of other instruments, including more than one hundred rare and fine stringed instruments. The opportunity to play a quality instrument can make an important difference in a young musician's artistic development. If you have questions about a donation of this nature, please contact Lori Padua at [email protected], or (212) 799-5000, ext. 7152.
We are pleased to consider contributions of certain types of books, scores, manuscripts, and recorded material, particularly rare items and special collections, should the items be useful educational tools for our young artists. Unfortunately, space limitations prevent the School from accepting all gifts that are offered. To inquire about making such a donation, please contact Jane Gottlieb at (212) 799-5000, ext. 265 or email [email protected].
